[movies]Metroid - Time Attack by Jeff C. (aka Arc) - Jeff 'Arc' C.
[NB - this video was transferred from the Machinima collection, and uses different rules to the other speeds runs in this collection, including use of emulators and multiple save states.] Another example of the pre-history of machinima - players bragging about their impressive performances to other players. This roughly 17-minute run through the NES's Metroid demonstrates the fastest path through the game. Please note: These speedthroughs were played on an emulator, using game slow-down options a...

[movies]Super Mario World - Xbox emulated run in 0:10:47 - Andrew McKinlay - Andrew McKinlay
Speed run of Super Mario World done on xsnes9x Super Nintendo emulator for Xbox, does not count as official record for SMW. Author's comments: This run was extremely lucky in two areas, 1. That i didn't die by that stupid stump thing in the first castle. 2. That i didn't choke on that lame water level like i always do. I'm never going to play this game ever again, as I officially became a complete loser this summer having played this game waaaaaay too much...

[movies]The Adventures of Rad Gravity (NES) - 17:51 (US version, emulated run) - Torfi Gunnarsson (aka. Blublu)
Here's my Rad Gravity run. I must give thanks to Spoony Bard. Without his first version, I would never have been motivated enough to make this run. My general route is basically the same, but with lots of optimizations in each level. I discovered that the disk that allows you to fly isn't actually neccesary. However, it does allow for a nice shortcut. I only need to use it once, so I only get two energy tanks (it costs two full energy tanks to use it)...

[movies]Rygar (NES) - 07:52 (Europe version, emulated run) - Hans Olsson (aka. Walker Boh)
For more details, see http://tasvideos.org/201M.html This movie completes the PAL Rygar with only one item: the grappling hook. And what an awesome movie it is: it demonstrates as many glitches of the game as possible. Some of the glitches save time radically, some save a little of time, and some don't save time at all but just look cool. It uses death as a shortcut, but in contrary to the usual, this death does not put Rygar backwards in the game, but instead warps him forward by a couple of le...

This game is, in my opinion, extremely hard and seeing it beaten taking this quickly and with so few hits is quite impressive. There were some points when I took a hit in order to increase the speed, but otherwise I avoided as many as possible.

[movies]Pit Fighter (Genesis) - 06:31 (July 1991 version, emulated run) - Mário de Almeida Azevedo Junior (aka. FODA)
- Level 8 difficulty (hardest) - As fast as possible. - Absolutely no damage taken as it wouldn't speed up the process. - Doesn't take all powerups because they make you knock down enemies. It's desired that they stand up as much as possible. - Manages to get one of the chainmen to kill the other one, so there is less bonus afterwards (faster).

This game is about a schoolgirl with a bag of holding and a rubber fishing line setting out to rid the world of giant mutant fish. Actually, it's more like a little-known Japanese wire-action platformer (like Bionic Commando or Ninja Five-O) with a small but rabid fan following. Like Ikaruga, the game is very easy to win, but very difficult to play. This is a decent port of the game (unlike the terrible NES version...) * Jumped straight through most guards. This saves a lot of time. * Skipped getting the sword on the first level. * Avoided fighting the skeleton on Level 3 by luring it to the left and jumping over it. * Took some fall damage during levels 8-10 because it saved time or was unavoidable.

This is a fluid run through Spindizzy Worlds on the Spindizzy cluster and on Advanced Mode. It is not a strict speedrun - sometimes liberties are taken, to avoid enemies and such. This game is very similar to Castle of Dragon in gameplay and structure. You move from left to right and fight a neverending onslaught of minibosses and bosses, with the occasional set of weak normal enemies to break things up. And also like CoD, as you kill things you gain experience and gain a longer lifebar as you level up. This game has some key differences which make it much better-suited for a timeattack, though...

I will warn everyone, much of this movie's time is in boring dialogue and walking around that must be done (actually, ALL of Chapter 4 falls into this category). And yes, you actually DO have to talk to all those people in villages. So, you can opt to skip these scenes or think of them as intermissions, whatever you want.
